Short Bio

Jane’s art resonates advocacy for the water on our planet and promote protection of watersheds to the ocean. Her “Sea Stories” paintings heighten the awareness of the sea’s importance, beauty, and fragility.

Statement

Most of my memories revolve around the coast or the deep ocean blue. Sailing on it, submerged in its lusty turquoise embrace or at the very least staring at it yearning to feel, smell and taste it. Possibly these feelings consume me because on the water is the only place I feel at peace, at home, content.

My paintings are stories about my life on the water. Perfect days spent scudding along on the wavelets that reflect diamonds or bashing headlong into waves trying to survive the storm. I am grateful to have an unusual history of waterborne adventures. I want to share my stories and experiences with the audience in hopes of heightening their awareness of its importance, beauty and fragility.

Inspired by watching my childhood sandcastles fall to the impertinent waves, my Sea Level Chronicles are 3-D “people and animals” meant to bring awareness to the increased flooding of coastal areas as well as the threats of permanent inundation.

First moved by the beautiful images by Jacques Cousteau in contrast to the hideous poisoned waters of Galveston Bay, I have wanted to clean up the water. Wisdom of the Waves is meant to inspire people to do something, even if it is just one thing.

In response to sea level rise, the powerful storms that impact our coasts, and the lack of moral compass that erodes society, I continue to create artworks on canvas, sculptures and film. The paintings attempt to bring the viewer closer to the oceans, bays and rivers in hopes of creating a stronger relationship and developing connection. The sculptures attract the viewer while engaging them in environmental issues such as sea level rise and subsidence. Sea Stories and Sea Level Stories can be seen as a visual metaphor for the decadent course humans have taken from our own nature and our neglected responsibility toward this ecosystem which has nourished our existence.
